The Asta is a Cantilever or Side-post umbrella. Having the post on the side as opposed to in the middle gives you maximum usability of the umbrella because you can cast the shade where and when you need it most.
Shelta has really been clever in designing this brilliant new upmarket cantilever umbrella. It is beautifully crafted from marine grade materials including extruded aluminium castings, with stainless steel fasteners and cabling. The mast is a truly impressive 120 x 76mm section, and all frame components are engineered to achieve a 60km/h wind rating*! The frame is powdercoated with a shadowy silver/anthracite combination, matched with high-quality Sunbrella acrylic fabric - the legendary 320gsm solution-dyed acrylic that is absolutely colour fast.
“It took me less than 2 minutes to learn how to use this umbrella, it’s just so easy, I love it.”
- Miranda H
The main feature of this umbrella has to be it’s ease of use. Wind the lifting handle and the umbrella easily begins to open. Loosen the tilt-knob and the arm rises almost automatically gliding into a tilt position. When the umbrella is fully opened, tighten the tilt-knob at the desired angle and the umbrella is ready for use.
The Asta is made using premium quality Sunbrella acrylic fabric. Sunbrella is widely regarded as the best outdoor awning and umbrella fabric in the industry. Features include;

This umbrella is available with a bolt down base or inground base. When using the bolt-down option the area should be a large concrete surface at least 10cm thick and steel reinforced. The base should be secured with 4 x M10 masonry anchors (sold separately).
For an in-ground installation the we supply a specially made base, which should be concreted into a hole of approx. 35cm diameter x 80cm depth (assuming firm natural ground). Typically 8 x 20kg bags of concrete are required. (Rapidset concrete is not recommended).
Due to its heavy construction the Asta is not suitable for a movable base option.
The Asta baseplate has a diameter of 25cm. The 4 countersunk hole centres are 14.2cm and the diameter of the spigot (vertical tube) is 60mm (outside diameter).

**This the ideal umbrella for someone looking for a large cantilever umbrella that can be used during breezy conditions. Although it has been tested in a wind tunnel to 60km/h when opened, we strongly recommend using good judgement and closing the umbrella when the wind picks up. The umbrella is more susceptible to wind when in the tilt position and when tilted, the wind-rating does not apply. See the warranty tab for more information.
This is one of the strongest and most sophisticated cantilever umbrellas on the market and with proper care and maintenance it should look great and provide many years of reliable and enjoyable service. It takes only a short time to learn the correct operation of this magnificent umbrella. You’ll find additional information about this product by using the Tabs at the top of the page.

How to secure a Cantilever Umbrella
Cantilever umbrellas need more weight than centre post umbrellas to make them stable. Some really big cantilever umbrellas like the Asta and Revolvashade need to be bolted down or installed with an in-ground base. Some of the medium-sized umbrellas like the Savannah and Lynden can be used with movable bases filled with either water or gravel.

The Asta is a large, heavy-duty cantilever umbrella. The things which add its cost include the very strong frame on which the umbrella is built and the premium quality Sunbrella canvas which is used to make the canopy.
Sure, the umbrella comes fully assembled ready for installation. If you’re bolting the umbrella down to a concrete slab, you need to drill 4 holes and use masonry anchors (not supplied) to bolt it down. If you’re planning to install it into a grassed area, you need to dig a hole and concrete an in-ground base (optional extra) into the ground. Once this is done it takes a couple of strong people to lift the umbrella from it’s box and slide it over the spigot ready for use.
Yes. If you’re bolting down to a concrete slab, we recommend you purchase some anchor bolts from us when you purchase your umbrella. If your installing in-ground, you need to purchase the in-ground socket in addition to the umbrella itself.
We recommend that you collapse the umbrella when not using it. Although it is a strong umbrella and is tolerant to windy conditions, it is always a good idea to fold it away when not in use.
The anchor bolts for sure. Also, the umbrella does come with a protection cover but it’s relatively light weight and only warranted for 12 months. If you really want to give your new umbrella the best possible protection we recommend you purchase an Extra Large Cantilever Cover. This will fit neatly on your new umbrella and give it the best possible protection.
A LED light is also a handy accessory to purchase. It simply clips onto a central drop-down arm.
There is only one frame colour and four canopy colour options. If you are seeking a different frame and/or coloured canopy look at the Sidepost Classic or the Revolvashade Deluxe Cantilever, both of which are available in a wide range of colour combinations.
